Election
After the death of Pope Zosimus (417-418), a bloody feud broke out between two factions for the papacy. Emperor Honorius finally intervened and had both Boniface and the opposer, Eulallo exiled from Rome to keep the peace, while a synod would be commissioned to make a decision. At the following Easter, Eulallo returned to celebrate the feast and perform baptisms; however, fighting resulted once again when his opposers discovered him. This was reported to Honorius, who then had Eulallo arrested and banished again, and then had Boniface made pope. Honorius later decreed that if two candidates were elected again, both are to be banned, and a new candidate chosen.395-423: Western Roman Emperor, Flavius Honorius
408-450: Eastern Roman Emperor, Theodosius II
