Pope Sixtus II

Biography:

The Liber Pontificalis says that he was a Greek; however, this is believed to be a confusion with a Greek philospher of the same name (Xystus).

Novatian Schism

He restored the relations with the churches of African and Asia Minor, which had been broken off by his predecessor over the controversy of readmitting lapsed Christians.

Death

He was martyred under the persecution of Emperor Valerian, which ordered that all church leaders be put to death.
